How to pause your Papermark plan?

If you don't need Papermark for a while but want to keep all your data rooms, documents, and analytics, you can pause your plan instead of cancelling. Pausing stops billing for a chosen window. When the pause ends, your plan resumes automatically.

Pausing is a lighter alternative to cancelling your plan. Your data and settings stay exactly where you left them.

When pausing makes sense

  • You're between deals and won't share documents for a month or two
  • A fundraising round wrapped up and you don't have the next one yet
  • You're going on extended leave but the team will return
  • You want to keep your account "warm" without paying during a slow period

For active rooms that you want to freeze without touching your plan, use freeze a data room instead.

What pausing does

ItemWhile paused
BillingStopped for the pause window
Data rooms and documentsPreserved as-is, not deleted
Existing linksVisitors can't open them until you resume
Analytics historyPreserved; new events stop until you resume
Team membersStay on the team, can't act on paid features
Custom domainsStay registered; document delivery resumes when you unpause

When you resume, everything returns to normal. No data loss, no re-setup.

Step 1: Open billing settings

  1. Log into Papermark.
  2. Click your team name in the top-left, then Settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, click Billing.

Step 2: Choose "Pause plan"

  1. In the Current plan section, click Manage subscription.
  2. Click Pause plan.
  3. Pick a pause window: 1 month, 2 months, or 3 months (the maximum).
  4. Confirm the pause.

You'll get an email confirmation with the pause end date and the date when billing will resume.

Step 3: Resume early (optional)

You can resume at any time during the pause window:

  1. Go to Settings, Billing.
  2. Click Resume plan.
  3. Billing restarts immediately on the same plan you had before.

You can also let the pause window expire on its own. Billing resumes automatically on the end date.

What visitors see during a pause

If someone tries to open a paused link, they see a generic "this content is currently unavailable" message - not your branding, not the document. As soon as you resume, links work again with no edits needed.

To set expectations, you can:

  • Send a quick email letting active visitors know access is paused
  • Use link expiration before pausing if you want links to expire on a specific date

Pause vs cancel vs freeze

If you're not sure, pausing is the safest option - it's reversible and protects everything.
