If you don't need Papermark for a while but want to keep all your data rooms, documents, and analytics, you can pause your plan instead of cancelling. Pausing stops billing for a chosen window. When the pause ends, your plan resumes automatically.
Pausing is a lighter alternative to cancelling your plan. Your data and settings stay exactly where you left them.
For active rooms that you want to freeze without touching your plan, use freeze a data room instead.
| Item | While paused |
|---|---|
| Billing | Stopped for the pause window |
| Data rooms and documents | Preserved as-is, not deleted |
| Existing links | Visitors can't open them until you resume |
| Analytics history | Preserved; new events stop until you resume |
| Team members | Stay on the team, can't act on paid features |
| Custom domains | Stay registered; document delivery resumes when you unpause |
When you resume, everything returns to normal. No data loss, no re-setup.
You'll get an email confirmation with the pause end date and the date when billing will resume.
You can resume at any time during the pause window:
You can also let the pause window expire on its own. Billing resumes automatically on the end date.
If someone tries to open a paused link, they see a generic "this content is currently unavailable" message - not your branding, not the document. As soon as you resume, links work again with no edits needed.
To set expectations, you can:
| Action | Best for | Effect on data | Effect on billing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pause plan | Short breaks (1-3 months) | Preserved | Stops, resumes on schedule |
| Cancel plan | Indefinite stop | Preserved | Stops permanently; account downgrades |
| Freeze data room | Specific room only | Preserved, room locked | No change to plan |
If you're not sure, pausing is the safest option - it's reversible and protects everything.
